During an unscheduled landing in Greece on January 6th, an Egypt Air flight encountered an unexpected situation when four passengers sought to extend their stay by hiding in the restroom. The flight diverted to Athens Eleftherios Venizelos Airport due to adverse weather on its route from Cairo to Benghazi. With 111 passengers and 6 crew members aboard, the captain denied permission for passengers to stay onboard during the stop.
Instead, police and security escorted passengers to the waiting area until 8:00 PM.
However, during reboarding, it became apparent that four individuals were missing. Investigations by CNN Greece revealed that these passengers aimed to remain in Greece and had attempted to evade detection by hiding in the restroom. Law enforcement discovered their concealment and returned them to the plane. Subsequently, at 9:05 PM, following a crew change, the aircraft resumed its journey to Benghazi.
