History
Airport History
Operations began in 1969. It is named "Omiros" (Homer) after the legendary ancient Greek poet, as Chios is one of the traditionally claimed birthplaces of the author. As of 2026, the long-awaited major expansion project is nearly complete, which includes extending the runway to 1,511m and a total renovation of the terminal to allow for increased international charter traffic.
