History
Airport History
Opened in 1952 at a military base near Amygdaleonas before moving to its current location in 1981. It was named after Alexander the Great to reflect the region's rich Macedonian heritage. Since the 2017 privatization, Fraport Greece has invested significantly in the facility, completing a terminal expansion and modernization in 2021 that included a 2,000 m2 increase in floor space and state-of-the-art baggage systems.
