History:
Airport History
Opened in the 1950s, the airport is named after King Philip II of Macedon, the father of Alexander the Great. Its high-elevation plateau (628m/2,059ft) makes it one of the highest airports in Greece. For decades, it has been a vital link for the energy-producing region of West Macedonia and is currently a major hub for professional pilot training (Egnatia Aviation).
