Airport History
Operations began in 1971. In 2003, a new terminal was inaugurated to modernize the island's connectivity. The airport is named after Alexandros Onassis, the son of the legendary shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis, who tragically died in a plane crash. The airport is vital for the local community, especially for medical evacuations and connecting the island to Athens.
