Originally built as a military airbase, Aktion remains a critical NATO installation (home to the E-3A AWACS Forward Operating Base). Since the 2017 privatization, Fraport Greece has transformed the civilian sector, completing a total terminal overhaul in 2021. The expansion increased the terminal area by nearly 2,500 m2 and modernized the aircraft stands to handle the growing influx of tourists to Lefkada and Parga.
