History
Airport History
Opened in 1983 to provide a vital link for one of the most traditional and rugged islands in the Dodecanese. The airport underwent a terminal renovation in the early 2000s. It remains a lifeline for the inhabitants, particularly for transport to Rhodes and Crete during the winter months when ferry travel can be disrupted by the Aegean "Meltemi" winds.
