Progression into Mid-Autumn Synoptic Patterns Across Hellenic FIRs

As early November progresses, mid-autumn meteorological conditions solidify across the Greek mainland and Aegean basins. High-pressure ridges shift eastward, allowing weak migratory fronts and localized low-pressure troughs to cross the region. Expect cooler ambient temperatures overall, variable cloud cover with occasional showers in coastal sectors, and increasing wind shear along exposed island channels. While general VFR operational capability remains strong, flight operations should account for lower morning ceiling bases, occasional visibility reductions in rain, and active NOTAM notifications for regional runway maintenance.

Athens International Airport "Eleftherios Venizelos" (LGAV)

Daytime highs cooling to 16°C–19°C, with overnight lows dipping to 10°C–13°C under partly cloudy skies and occasional light precipitation bands. Moderate north-to-northeasterly winds prevailing at 10–15 knots, with afternoon gusts up to 20 knots.

Operational Impact: Ceiling stability remains good, though temporary cloud layers (FEW/SCT 025–035) may form during frontal passes. Cool ambient conditions completely eliminate density altitude constraints. NOTAM Advisory: Single-runway configuration remains active due to scheduled maintenance on Runway 03L/21R; dispatchers should plan for potential flow management slot delays during peak inbound movement banks.

The adjacent building glass and glass-front door are covered in urban graffiti tags, featuring shop signs written in Greek. Several modern scooters and motorbikes line the street along the sidewalk under awnings.

Thessaloniki Airport "Makedonia" (LGSK)

Daytime highs cooling to 14°C–17°C, with crisp overnight lows dropping to 8°C–11°C under variable cloud layers and isolated morning coastal showers. Light to moderate northerly winds (Vardaris influence) prevailing at 8–14 knots, occasionally gusting to 18 knots through the Thermaic Gulf corridor.

Operational Impact: Low-level morning stratus and localized radiation fog over the Thermaic Gulf may temporarily lower cloud bases (BKN 015–025) and reduce visual margins during early morning departures and arrivals. Thermal performance is optimal across all runway configurations, with zero density altitude penalty.

To their left stands a pole with a pedestrian traffic signal showing a red standing light. In the distance, a cargo ship floats on the calm horizon under a clear blue sky with light, wispy clouds.

Heraklion International Airport "Nikos Kazantzakis" (LGIR)

Daytime highs settling between 18°C and 21°C, with overnight temperatures reaching 13°C–15°C. Maritime northerly to north-westerly winds averaging 14–18 knots, with gusts near 22 knots along the northern Cretan shoreline.

Operational Impact: Sustained maritime flow maintains comfortable thermal stability across the tarmac. Moderate crosswind components will be present during peak gust periods. Isolated low-level cloud banks may drift inland during early morning hours, but visual and instrument approach corridors remain clear.

The circular fired clay disc features stamped hieroglyphic symbols arranged in a spiral pattern leading toward the center, set against a softly blurred background of museum display cases and artifacts.

Rhodes International Airport "Diagoras" (LGRP)

Mild mid-autumn pattern with daytime maximums reaching 19°C–22°C and night lows cooling to 14°C–16°C. Persistent north-westerly airflow dominates the South Aegean and Dodecanese corridor at 12–16 knots.

Operational Impact: High VFR/IFR reliability across all approach routes. Solar radiation and tarmac heat soak are substantially reduced during afternoon turnarounds, improving ground crew working conditions and aircraft cooling performance during quick turns.

Sunlight filters into the vaulted passageway, illuminating textured sandstone walls, decorative lanterns, a bench on the right, and round stone bollards set along the paved alley leading toward a sunlit walkway.
